    How to set colour depth?

    Hi,

I performed a clean install of Kubuntu 7.10 on my Compaq Evo D510 desktop box and all appears well.

However, I've noticed one thing: it looks like the desktop/display is only 16-bit colour, rather than the 32-bit that my GFX chipset is capable of.

I've tried looking in the display settings, but can't see any option to change the colour depth...

The built-in GFX chipset is the Intel 82845g and I'm connected to a HP 1530 15" LCD (native res 1024x768) monitor.

    Cheers,

    Mike.

AFIK the max depth xorg will go is 24. I may be wrong and will be corrected if I am You can edit that in the /etc/x11/xorg.config file as root (kdesudo or kdesu kate).

This is what the relevant part of my xorg.config loks like:
    Section "Screen"
    Identifier "Default Screen"
    Monitor "Configured Monitor"
    DefaultDepth 24
    SubSection "Display"
    Modes "1280x1024"
    EndSubSection
    EndSection

    4 GB Ram
    Kubuntu 18.10
