    Firefox woes!

    Hi,

Thanks to Rog131 for the help on setting the GTK font prefs - that seems to fix the font issue on the firefox menus.

Now I have two more problems/issues with Firefox:

1: The fonts on any web page I access with Firefox (only those fonts in BOLD) are distorted. I can't see any options within Firefox to change the font attributes (bold, Italic, etc). Any bold text in the firefox menus/windows/tabs is also appearing distorted... Strange...

Could this be caused by missing fonts, since I have the option (under Firefox Preferences->Content->Fonts & Colours->Advanced) "Allow pages to chose their own fonts..." enabled...

See the following image, which shows the distorted fonts:

2: I have a clean install of Kubuntu 7.10 i386 and want to upgrade Firefox from the current version of 2.0.0.6 (which I installed using Adept) to the latest version available - 2.0.0.12. I've downloaded and unarchived the Firefox 2.0.0.12 package from the mozilla.org website, but when I try and run the "updater" executable from within the Firefox 2.0.0.12 folder, it doesn't appear to do anything.

I guess I'm spoilt with the ease of updating thing in WinXP (just double click and off it goes!), so I think I need a few pointers on how to update Firefox on Kubuntu!

As always, any help or comments greatly appreciated!

    Cheers,

    Mike.

The best and easiest way to update Firefox & Thunderbird is Ubuntuzilla. Read over and follow instructions. I use Ubuntuzilla on 5 systems works great and never had any issues with it.

Hmmm, if you installed firefox from the repositories it should have automatically upgraded to 2.0.0.12 this morning. Mine did.

        Re: Firefox woes!

From what I can see, you have no default font specified in your FF settings.

Yes FF was updated yesterday / today

        Edit:
I tried your solution for FF fonts this afternoon.
        http://ubuntusite.com/fix-get-best-firefox-font-linux/

Gave me the same results as you are seeing now.

I have all of my fonts in FF set to Arial. Period
