I went today and got me a system from a pawn shop. Installed, and wow.. everything works. Have sound. Heck I even installed a Linksys wireless card and it loaded with no more effort than a few clicks of the mouse. 
) Got me a Dell 4600, 2,8 GHz, 1 gig RAM, 250 gig HD, it even has a GeForce FX 5200 video card. So now I am going to learn how to tweak it to my liking ) I took the live CD with me to the pawn shop. The guy wasn't going to let me try it but managed to talk him into it.
Thanks to everyone who helped me so far. I'm sure I"ll be back to ask more questions. But everyone has given me a great resource for information. So again
