    Terrible mistake with networks

Hello I made a mistake that I regret: I uninstalled network manager and now I can't connect o internet, so I'm not able to restore it form adept package manager. I have tried to get the repositories form the installation CD but it always looks for an internet connection. Please help is needed, this problem started because I was trying to make my wireless lan work. I'm using kubuntu 7.10, by the way, when I run from a live CD I can use my network without any trouble at all but still not able to use wifi.
    Thanks!

Have you tried installing it with a konsole command?
Open konsole and give the command:
    sudo apt-get install network-manager

This should fix any installation issues of network manager.

That is doubtful considering the fact that adan cannot get a internet connection.

@adan: Can you do: alt+F2 and type kdesudo kate, give your password. Now open up /etc/apt/ sources.list and have a look if your cd is still active in the list?

Do you have anything in kmenu->internet->network? Or in system settings pointing to networking?. If not then we may have a problem.

Yep, when I make an apt-get install I get the following message:
        sudo apt-get install network-manager
        Reading package lists... Done
        Building dependency tree
        Reading state information... Done
Package network-manager is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package network-manager has no installation candidate
        when checking sources.list:

        deb cdrom:[Kubuntu 7.10 _Gutsy Gibbon_ - Release i386 (20071016.1)]/ gutsy main restricted
as for the options in the K menu:
settings>windows wireless drivers & Wireless Network

system>KWiFi Manager & windows wireless drivers

        internet>KWiFi Manager
but none of them is working, I can't get access to internet. It seems that I may have a problem, by the way, I have already downloaded and burned on a CD KDE 4

        Thanks.

Okay, are you still in GG?

Are you on a lan or wifi connection at the moment?

Do you have network manager in system settings?

Or If you have kcontrol installed can you get to:
          network: network manager?

It is hard to believe you uninstalled network manager without uninstalling half of your kde desktop (kubuntu-desktop)

            Thanks for your help Fintan.
Using Kcontrol I was able to enable the ethernet again, Immediately I made an apt-get knetwork-manager.

            It is working fine now

            Cheers!!!
