Kubuntu 7.10 won't boot anymore....

I installed Kubuntu yesterday and after help here I also managed to install Firefox and Tbird.
Now I wanted to reboot the machine and it is hanging.

What I installed and did before I rebooted is:
- Tried using the Kubuntu mail and managed to connect to my account
- Edited /etc/X11/xorg.conf (changed default color depth to 32)
- Changed the mouse pointer color to red
- Installed FireFox
- Installed Thunderbird
- Installed Enigmail

The installations were done using the Kubuntu software handler (don't remember its name now and I can't look since the machine is hanging).

Now it boots until:
* Running local boot scripts (/etc/rc.local) [OK]
then nothing more seems to happen....
The cursor moves to the far right in the next line and stops

What should I do now

Depending on your hardware (don't not take windows as a reference, this is not windows) xorg may not be able to support 32 as default. Usually it is set to 24.

my problem seems to have been the edit I did to xorg.conf.
I booted grub into recovery console and used nano to change it back to 24 and then it started up normally.
The reason I wanted to change it in the first place is that I am running in a virtual machine under VPC2007 and the emulated Trio64 video card actually does not support 24 bit color (it does support 8, 16 and 32 bits though).
