Newbie: How to install FireFox in Kubuntu 7.10?

I am primarily a Windows user, but I have been used to FireFox for as long as it was out.

Now I installed Kubuntu today and found that it comes with Konqueror instead.

What is the best way to install FireFox on Kubuntu? I have no clue at all on how to install applications in Kubuntu...

I have navigated to the FireFox download and it offers a setup for FireFox 2.0.0.11 for Linux i686.
    It is a tar.gz file.
What do I do with that once it is on my desktop?

Don't bother with 'downloading' files (compress or otherwise) from the Net. It isn't necessary. Click on K Menu (the blue icon button in the bottom left corner) and click on System and then on Adept Manager. Search on firefox. In the listing below, click on firefox and click the Request Install button. Then just click the Apply Changes just below the menu bar.

I had already looked there, but firefox is not listed.
Then I tried finding something starting with mozilla and then I found
mozilla-firefox-locale-en-gb explained as Mozilla Firefox English language /region package...

So why is a language package available when the main product is not?

Or if it is the complete product, why is it not listed on the start menu under Internet?
How do I actually run it?

What version of Kubuntu are you running?

7.10 Gutsy Gibbon downloaded from Kubuntu today.
          First time trying out Kubuntu....

Meanwhile I also had a look at the "Add/Remove Programs" item in the main menu.
Here below Internet I saw Firefox listed but the checkbox in front was not checked and the whole item was grayed out. Could not find anywhere I could put a checkmark on this item or enable it.

            Okay. New install of Gutsy.

Open Adept Manager (K Menu | System | Adept Manger) and click on Adept | Manage Repositories. On the first tab, check all items (you don't need the last item checked unless you intend to download source files for compiling). On the Third-Party Software tab uncheck/delete the cdrom repository entry. Close the window. If Adept doesn't automatically fetch updates, click on Fetch Updates. You will now have access to the thousands of available packages.

Very strange. I've done this a dozen times (literally) in Gutsy through Add/Remove to get Firefox. I can't imagine, but perhaps you must get all the updates (the red triangular icon at lower right), and let it go all the way through, to include "update to new version" dialog afterwards.

                Thanks,
this has made it work. I have now installed Firefox and T-bird. On my way to get Enigmail too.
