What happened? Was the system working before, then just now it stopped working?

How many hard drives do you have?
What operating systems are on them? On what partitions are the operating systems?
What does your GRUB boot menu look like -- /boot/grub/menu.lst (located in your Kubuntu partition).

To get at some answers, you should probably use the Live Kubuntu CD.
You can copy/paste the menu.lst here (use Konqueror as a browser).
      Also, open Konsole and run
      sudo fdisk -lu
      and copy/paste that here, too.
      Also,
      open Konsole, type
      sudo grub
then at the grub>, type this:
      grub> find /boot/grub/stage1
and copy/paste the answer here (it will be some expression (hdx,y)).
      (note the space after find)

Please organize/label everything so we can see what you have there.

Oh Mike..all I want now is to retrieve my files, transfer it temporarily to my Xubuntu PC through network then have my Kubuntu PC reinstalled. Can you teach me how to do this??

If I knew how to do that, I'd be glad to show you!
Wait for some network guys to wake up and sign in here this morning.

I do things the old-fashioned way:
Use Live CD to access the data; mount that data partition, copy the data off to some media (like CD, DVD, or flash drive), etc etc etc.
(Tuxfiles has good stuff about how to mount & so on.)

(I'm going to log off for awhile because I'll be booted into GParted Live with no browser.)

              - I only have 1 hard drive that was working then it just stopped
(though I used another a while ago to install Xubuntu on it)

What operating systems are on them? On what partitions are the operating systems?
              - On my Kubuntu PC, I only have Kubuntu as my OS. I have 2 partions..

                  Re: waaa..I'm in deep GRUB #&%$!! =(

File not found indicates something may be damaged in your basic GRUB files, or worse, in your Kubuntu root partition. The files used to be there, now they are not.

In your Live Kubuntu CD session, you will have to try to get your data off, as you indicated was your goal. You would open Konqueror, Storage Devices, then navigate to your /home/your_name, and copy the data off to flash drive(s) or CD’s, or whatever you are familiar with using (DVD?).

The menu.lst can be seen from Konqueror also:
Enter in the Konqueror location window
                  /boot/grub
then press Enter and you’ll see menu.lst.

Sure sounds like something in the /boot/grub directory got damaged, changed, corrupted, etc.

                    Re: waaa..I'm in deep GRUB #&%$!! =(

A very simple method to transfer files using KDE:

                    1) Boot the live CD on the broken PC.
                    2) Install ssh

                    Code:
                    sudo apt-get install openssh-client
                    3) Install ssh on xubuntu desktop

                    Code:
                    sudo apt-get install openssh-server
                    4) Access xubuntu desktop from Live CD desktop using konqueror

Open konqueror and add the following to address bar

                    fish://UserID@IPaddressXubuntuDesktop

At prompt enter password for User@XubuntuDesktop

You can copy files from the broken desktop to the Xubuntu dekstop.

                    Mike

Can I just copy my files hard drive (Xubuntu - master) to hard drive (Kubuntu - slave)

I think the key might be that you installed KUBUNTU on another HD. I'm will to bet that modified the MBR to look for menu.lst on the second HD. If you've removed that HD then the MBR can't find menu.lst.

But then I'm new and could be wrong.

On the live cd go toKmenu->system settings->advanced->Harddisks&Files->administratopn mode now you will see all the partitions on all the harddisks that are "seen" right clikc on the partitions you wish to acivate choose edit and give it a mount point lik /media/xubuntu and then /media/kubuntu for the other one. Now you can activate them and they will show up in konqueror under /media which should be in the root (top) folder.
I haven't done this for a while on a live CD so yo may have to foll around with konqueror for a while.
Now you can move / copy / paste whatever you want.

                          I hope this helps
                          Edit:

I think so as well. Get yourself the super grub live cd:
                          http://supergrub.forjamari.linex.org/?section=download

that page also has a lot of docs on grub and restoring it. Please note that you should have both HD hookes up when booting either the kubuntu live cd or the supergrub cd.

Conversly tis is a quote from mikes how.to I pointed you to:
                          Install or Re-install GRUB

How to: Install (or re-install) GRUB from your “main” Linux OS to the MBR of the main hard drive. Let's say your “main” Linux OS (the root files containing /boot/grub) is located in (hdx,y). (See Notation below.)

Case 1: You are able to boot into a (any) Linux OS on your PC.
If so, do so. Then open a terminal (Konsole) get a GRUB prompt as root by typing sudo grub (then press Enter), and type the following (press Enter after each command):
grub> root (hdx,y) # (hdx,y) is the partition of your "main" Linux OS
grub> setup (hd0) # This assumes (hd0) is your “main” booting hard drive MBR
                          grub> quit
                          $ exit

Case 2: You can't boot into any of your Linux OSs.
First, you need to get a grub prompt (grub>) somehow. Your two choices are: (1) Use a rescue disk, like Super Grub Disk, from which you can boot into your OS, or press the “c” key to get a GRUB prompt. Or, (2) Use your Live Kubuntu CD. Let's assume (2) here. Put your Live CD in the CD tray, re-boot your PC, startup your Live Kubuntu. Now get a terminal (Konsole) and proceed exactly as in Case 1, starting with “sudo grub” to get a GRUB prompt.
You can follow case 1 from the live cd. Just make sure you know which partition has the system you want to boot as default. Then you can always edit the menu.lst later AND move your data.

You have to click on administration mode first. If this is a HH live cd it may be diabled you will have to use a GG (gutsy) live cd.
