ntfs problem resolution

I can mount 1 78 GB partition on the external hd, I can see, but not mount the 171 GB partition that is also on the external hard drive. My /etc/fstab file is as follows:

what do I need to do to mount the last partition, and if i post my mtab file, could someone help me modify the fstab and mtab so that the external drive partitions are properly dealt with?

I see a couple of problems here.

1. blkid shows no such partition as "/dev/sda2" which appears in fstab and fdisk output as a vfat-formatted partition. I wonder if the mount point "media/sda2" actually exists?

Recommendation: In terminal,

cd /media

and then

ls -a

to verify whether there is such a directory/mount point as sda2. If not, then (while still at the /media$ prompt)

sudo mkdir sda2

While you are at it, also

sudo mkdir sda5

2. The partition recognized by fdisk and blkid on the running system as /dev/sda5 does not appear in the /etc/fstab file at all, so of course it is not mounted or usable.

Recommendation: Open /etc/fstab with the Kate editor as Super User,

sudo kate /etc/fstab

and add this line below the line that begins "/dev/sda2":

UUID=362C8A662C8A214B /media/sda5 ntfs-3g defaults 0 2

I think this will get you closer to working.

I think I should have the external on the mtab instead of the fstab, since I don't always boot the machine with the external attached (all files documented on this post were made with the drive running)
