Not to whine, but I'd like a WINE

Upon many suggestions I've managed my repository in Adept by adding:
    deb http://wine.sourceforge.net/apt/ binary/ .

As has happened to many others, this crashed Adept. Like many others I eventually figured it out and fixed it. Thats where previous threads stop helping me. I haven't found one that gives a repository that works where I can get Wine or Winetools.

I hope that it's not that I haven't looked hard enough.

    Thanks in advance,
    Mindslant

I use the repository you've just given with no problems at all.

Hi, mindslant. I am pretty much a noob myself when it comes to all this, but I have had much more success using Synaptic than Adept. No idea why, but it works for me.

      Cheers

Adept...well I like it, but it crashs constantly. So try this

        open a terminal and type

        sudo apt-get install synaptic

after it installs go into system and look for Synaptic Package manager and run it. You should not have any of the troubles you are having using Adept. Synaptic has been around a long time and works incredibly well.

I think I've seen your icon before when I was lurking for answers earlier. Your posts (assuming it was you) really helped me get started.

So I'm the idiot I guess. Actually, I think I got it licked but thanks for the show of support.

Now there's a plan. Any idea why synaptic isn't the defualt for Kubuntu? Just for KDU uniformity?

Well Synaptic is not a KDE App would be my guess. Personally I don't like several of the things Kubuntu has done. Which is sad becuase i really really would like to use it, but things like there version of Kcontrol, which also crashes or will not let you go into admnin mode to make changes has prevented me from using it. I tried a number of times to install ubuntu and then to install KDE on top of it, but it never works right since the only way to do so is to not use ubuntu reposotories....well anyway I do have faith they will get things right eventually. Untill then I'll use Debian Etch with KDE.
Mepis is another that is promiseing but I don't like a couple of things that are done with it either so....
Ofcourse Debian it's self has it's own problems..LOL but it at least i seem to be able to work with, with less hassle. I kind of have a mixed system as I use things from both Mepis and Kubuntu, and now that Automatix has been released for Debian etch..well it is a pretty nice platform.
