This isn't listed on kubuntu FAQ

The FAQ mentions that Free Kubuntu CDs are not available via Shipit.

    Question:

What about those who may want to order non-free, preferably affordable, Kubuntu CDs? Together with bare basic, newbie-friendly installation instructions of course.

    Is that available?

P.S. I've never used Linux - the only OS's I've used thus far were Win-98 Home Edition & Win-XP Home Edition and detest both.

      Hi, Minni.

It's always worth a look on eBay, which is a great source of non-free things. You can buy the latest version (Ubuntu Breezy Badger) and try the live CD first to see if it suits your system. You won't find the instruction book with it but you have already posted on the best instruction book in the world. Keep in mind that Kubuntu is Ubuntu with the added KDE desktop.

      Good luck,

Don't be afraid to give it a go. It's the best thing I ever did.

      Cheers

From what I've read, when Dapper becomes final in April, Kubuntu will be available on Shipit. If you have a broadband connection, you could always download the Breezy ISO and burn your own CD.

Thank y'all very much  8) note that I don't have a CD burner, rather just CD-ROM which came with my socialized Dell Dimension 4600.

My big problem is that unlike the vast majority of others, I'm contending with computer-monitor intolerance as well. So I'm researching getting an older laptop which may not have such health issues (from what I understand) and many older laptops don't come with operating systems.

Thus, my considering ubuntu/kubuntu... aside from the fact that I detest the Windows/Dell duo and all the problems those monsters created.

Someone like myself cannot easily learn new stuff online - which involves alot of computer exposure (I have dialup).

P.S. I've also tried most of the well-intentioned proposed solutions by various "experts" which turned out to be so much hot air (I had even created a website based on all my disillusionments & which includes testimonials by other people too.) The irony is that all the research forces more exposure which makes me more ill - thus I'm stuck in a Catch-22. It may just be that I have infrared poisoning as listed on a quantum-diagnostic scan I had.

Meanwhile, since I'm still in the process of deciding which older laptop to get I'm not yet at the stage of ordering kubuntu CDs. Once I get same, then if need be I'll come back here to find out which kubuntu version is most compatible with whatever system I get. The main thing is that I now know it's [hopefully] safe to purchase an older laptop minus O.S.
