It seems like a library is missing. That's all I can say. KDE4 is not as stable as kde 3.xx
the not so good way would be to go to ~/.kde4/share/wallpapers/
and copy the wallpaper you want over the plasma-default

I was thinking about just chillin' until R1 comes out. From what I have been reading KDE4 is pretty much a polished beta release. Since it was recoded from the ground up, it still has "production bugs" to work out. It is fast and has potential.
