    need help badly...

K well I just switched to linux from windows, and so far have been more annoyed then anything . I installed Kubuntu and updated my nvidia drivers. Now, I use the 8800 graphics card so I had to download the drivers from Nvidia and I installed it with this:

    sudo sh (nvidia drivers.run)

after installing I immediately downloaded compiz and its libraries for the cool desktop features. Well I got everything loaded and working great...THEN I made the mistake of restarting....

It will not boot into the graphical GUI. (I guess x-server is what you call it...or whatever, still learning as I am a noob) It hangs after a few (ok)'s. Now I am able to boot into recovery mode, but Im completely useless in console.

Im sure the graphics card install and or the compiz install is what messed up my system. How do I go about fixing this??

I recommend Envy for installing the Nvidia driver:

If you boot in recovery mode you get to command line promt.
        There you type the following:
        Code:
        dpkg reconfigure xorg-server
here you can manually choose your video card. Choose vesa and accept all the rest, you can also choose your screen resolution. After you are done you will see another command line prompt. Now type:
        Code:
         startx
that should give you the root desktop with a generic video driver.
If that works you can reboot into your user and follow dible's suggestion.

I hope that helps and good luck. Keep us posted
