I have downloaded kernel to 2.6.23.13 to my desktop for know so i now where it is but what are the step i need to take so I can start to use the new kernel. i'm using kubuntu 7.10 please tell me each step I need to do step by step please. thanks

First a warning: compiling a kernel is not for the faint-hearted. Do you actually need to do this? Is there some fancy piece of hardware you own that's unsupported by 2.6.22-14?
Second, a warning: really, do you actually want to do this?

I upgraded to 2.6.24-2-generic using a script I found in the ubuntu forums. I had to do this to get my new wacom tablet to work.

I had no issues with using the script. You might though depending on the video card you have etc... However if there are problems, it is easy to switch back to the older kernel during boot.
