Gutsy: Setting Up POSIX Shared Memory

After scouring the posts here and the 'Net, there seems to be a consensus that Kubuntu Gutsy comes pre-configured with POSIX shared memory.

On my machine the live CD with KDE 4.0 was used to reinstall...and there is no shm entry in /etc/fstab.

I need shared memory for a number of functions, one of which is getting Composite support on my graphics driver...If anyone can point me in the right direction on setting this up, i would be grateful.

I know for my laptop I have to add Option "SMHConfig" "on" to the TouchPad section of xorg.conf. Does that help?

I've gotten confirmation on that Option from my research...

...but it's my understanding that without an entry in /etc/fstab, there is no Shared Memory for that Option to be valid...?

fstab is the file system table. This will contain all of the file systems for your machine. Is what you are dealing with a file system? I am confused as to why there needs to be an entry in /etc/fstab. I have nothing regarding SHM for my laptop in /etc/fstab.

I thought for POSIX Shared memory there's supposed to be some kind of ramdisk (/dev/shm) initialized through /etc/fstab to provide shared memory for programs like Jack Audio and the fglrx X.org driver...

...am i wrong?
