    trouble with video settings

I've used the gnome version of ubuntu in the past but I've always seemed to have been drawn back to windows, but I am really enjoying kubuntu and I might stick with it for good.

Anyway, my problem is that I can't access my "Monitor and Display" settings. Whenever I try to open it up the screen flickers for a second and then an error message appears.

"The module Monitor and Display could not be loaded

    The diagnostics is:

    Possible reasons:

An error occurred during your last KDE update leaving an orphaned control module

You have old third party modules lying around

check these points carefully and try to remove the module mentioned in the error message."

previously the diagnostics would return with "no path to libpython2.5.so" but I got rid of that by apt-getting build-essential.

    my system specs are

    CPU: Intel P4 clocked @ 3.2ghz w/ hyperthreading fsb @ 800mhz
    Video Card: EVGA 8800GT 512mb ddr3
    RAM: 2.97gb clocked @ 233mhz (I think..)
    Motherboard: Fatal1ty AA8XE w/ 1066FSB

I think that's all that would be needed...

    Re: trouble with video settings

Did u install the driver for ur video card?
If not, open a Konsole and type:
    sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx-new

After that on the same Konsole session type:
    sudo kate /etc/X11/xorg.conf

There, look under "Device" and replace "nv" for "nvidia"
Save the file and close it

    Reboot

After the reboot open again the Konsole and type:
    sudo nvidia-settings

There, make the pertinent changes, hit "Apply" and then "Save to X configuration file"

U should be good to go
