    Konqueror: Flash player doesn't run.

I am a brand new user. I used adept manager to download and install "flashplugin-nonfree" (9.0.48.0.2) and adept shows it as installed. I checked and konqueror-nsplugins (4.3.5.8-oubuntu2) is listed as installed in Adept. I rebooted after installing flashplugin.

When I go to youtube and select a video, I get the message "You have javascript turned off or an old version of adobe's flash player.

can someone tell me in layman's language what I might try next? Thanks in advance for your help.

When you start Konqueror, go to Settings:Configure Konqueror:Plugins and click Scan for new Plugins. This should find the mozilla plugin. Afterwards, in the address bar, type aboutlugins. This will show you which version is being used. If it isn't listed, we will have to add the directory the plugin is in.

After I scan for new plugins, $home/.molizza/plugins is listed at the top. I saw it but took no action. I closed that window and typed aboutlugins in konqueror and see two lists. The top part lists:
        Realplayer
        Windows Media Player plugin
        Quicktime
        Java

Then there is another table which lists mime types. The above are the only plugins listed.

            Hey Rog,

Thanks for taking the time for trying to help.

Have you ever asked someone in English to answer a question and have them reply in another language? Just so you know, thats what your reply seems like to a rank newbie like me. I need simple steps in english or a link to same. If installing a flash player in Kubuntu is this hard then I'm not ready for it.

Can anyone give me steps or direct me to same?

What version of *ubuntu are you running? Going to YouTube isn't the best 'test' of Flash Player. If you visit any other sites that use flash, do they run?

If you visit Test Adobe Shockwave & Flash Players do you see the flash animation under ADOBE FLASH PLAYER ?

No I do not get the flash animation. I installed firefox just to see and I don't see it with firefox either.

If you actually have the plug-in installed, then the file libflashplayer.so should be found in your ~/.mozilla/plugins folder:
                    Code:
                    sudo find -name flash*.so

Re: Konqueror: Flash player doesn't run.

                      Take 2

                      When you get:
"You have javascript turned off or an old version of adobe's flash player.

                      Check:

Does Konqueror find flash plugin ?

                      - type aboutlugins in the Konqueror URL box
There should be something like this:
                      Plugin Description File
                      Shockwave Flash Shockwave Flash 9.0 r48 flashplugin-alternative.so
If Konqueror doesn't find flash plugin:
                      - Do you have (from repositories):
                      - konqueror-nsplugins
                      - flashplugin-nonfree

If you have konqueror-nsplugins and flashplugin-nonfree but don't have flash plugin.
                      You could try to
                      - reinstall flashplugin-nonfree /1/.
                      - check /var/cache/flashplugin-nonfree folder. Is there install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz ?
                      - download install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz from Adobe /2/.
                      - donwload install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz from http://www.badongo.com/file/7122816 /3/

If you have /var/cache/flashplugin-nonfree folder and there is install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz (or you download install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz)

                      - You could unpack it /4/
                      - There is flashplayer-installer script, you could run it /5/
                      - There is libflashplayer.so and flashplayer.xpt. You could simply make /6/ ~/.mozilla/plugins and copy/move files there.

The beta version of flash had readme.txt:
                      Installation instructions
                      ------------

                      * Plugin
o To install the plugin as user:
+ Copy or move libflashplayer.so into your plugins directory (usually located): ~/.mozilla/plugins
+ Create the plugins folder if it doesn't exist
o To install the plugin as root:
+ Copy or move the file into your system browser installed plugins directory (usually located): /usr/lib/<browser_directory>/plugins

                      /1/ About flashplugin-nonfree
                      flashplugin-nonfree is program which:
                      - makes nessessary folders
                      - dowloads install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz from Adobe with wget.
                      - unpacks install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz
                      - launch Adobe installer script

Because Adobe flash installer is third party script, package managers can't know if there are flash plugin in your system. Package manager only knows that there is flashplugin-nonfree program.

/2/ Adobe is offering Version: 9,0,115,0 of the flash plugin. lmilano told that this will break Konqueror.
