Flash for Konqueror

I know that Adobe Flash does not work with Konqueror. But I was told that there is another flash product that is called "9.0r48" or something. I just do not know how to access synaptic in Kubuntu to install it. And do I have to uninstall Adobe flash?

I have this package installed, but when I visit a site with flash, no flash plays. Instead, I'm prompted that Flash Player needs to be installed. What do I need to do to get Konqueror to recognize that the Flash Player plugin package has been installed?

Yes, I do. My Gutsy installation was done 'fresh' - not an upgrade - and has been consistently maintained/updated. I don't have Firefox or Opera installed.

The reason I mentioned that, is that when I first visited a site running flash with Konqueror, I had the pop-up come up that said Flash 9.0 yadaya and I said OK, let's get it. As said, Gutsy Version: 9.0.48.0.2+really0ubuntu12 is present/installed on my system. But I can't play flash animations.

Should I uninstall 9.0.48.0.2+really0ubuntu12 and reinstall? If so, what steps should I take for reinstalling so that it will actually work in Konqueror?

If flashplugin-nonfree isn't working, you could download flash directly from Adobe.
Extract libflashplayer.so to /usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree/ or ~/.mozilla/plugins, so konqueror-nsplugins can find it.

Flash Player 9 plugin installation

Adobe has been working on the successor to the Flash Player v7 for Linux for some time and have released a new version which improves on a lot of the issues present in v7 (such as being able to play video WITH synced audio).

Flash Player 9 is provided by the flashplugin-nonfree package in Ubuntu 7.04, which has been backported for Ubuntu 6.06 and 6.10. Alternatively, you can download Flash directly from the Adobe website. Download the .tar.gz file and follow the installation instructions given.

Okay, did the following:

1. Downloaded install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz to my desktop.
2. Extracted the contents with Ark to /home/paul/install_flash_player_9_linux
3. From the console, changed directory to /home/paul/install_flash_player_9_linux
4. Typed ./flashplayer-installer
5. Shutdown Konqueror as instructed.
6. The installer proceded and indicated that it was installed.
7. Restarted Konqueror and navigated to http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/

Under ADOBE FLASH PLAYER I just have a gray box and Konqueror indicates that the page is still loading (88%) and doesn't finish. Clicking Stop produces a crash:

"The application unknown (nspluginviewer) crashed and caused the signal 11 (SIGSEGV)."

From the / directory, sudo find -name libflashplayer.so reports:

./media/sda5/paul/.mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so

./home/paul/install_flash_player_9_linux/libflashplayer.so

So the required file has been installed to:
./home/paul/.mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so
(The other directory location - ./media/sda5/paul/.mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so - is my Feisty /home partition and I checked - the two files are different and this one is 'older' so was installed from Feisty)

So what gives?

aboutlugins now shows:

I deleted ./home/paul/.mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so (r115) and replaced it with the one I had in my Feisty installation (r32). Restarted KDE (ctrl+alt+bksp) and all is good.

Other than downloading the 61.8Mb file (http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php...99&postcount=9), is there a way to get the r48 release, or is the r32 (I'm running a 32-bit OS) what I want?
