How to Change Resolution of Login Window

My login window screen uses a resolution not supported by my monitor (an old CRT I'm afraid) and while I can sorta see my way around and am able to log in, I would like to know how to select a supported resolution so that my clicking is less guesswork.

The login screen will use the first available resolution in your /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Edit that file and place the desired resolution in the "Screen" section.

Be sure to backup your xorg.conf

Re: How to Change Resolution of Login Window

Thanks, I just removed ALL the unsupported resolutions from my xorg.conf file. Rebooted and found that my login screen works. The interesting thing was that the resolution I'm running at (1280x1024@85Hz) was the first resolution, yet it has been deciding to use another one. All is well now. I am so grateful to this forum, you are all making my switch to Linux much easier.
