Two things I would like to know?

Two things I would like to know?
1 What do you do with unzipped program files on the desktop? Is there a way to load them under Adept.

2 How do I get this, plug-in to load?

If "unzipped program files" = .deb (debian package files)

What version of Kubuntu do you use ?
If Gutsy (7.10): Use GDebi KDE
    https://launchpad.net/gdebi

From Kubuntu 7.10 - Gutsy Gibbon
    http://kubuntu.org/announcements/7.10-release.php
New for Kubuntu 7.10 is a KDE front end to the amazing APT package manager for third party packages. GDebi KDE makes it easier to install Debian based packages (.deb files) onto your system with just a click of the mouse. No more command line hassles when trying to manually install a package, and GDebi KDE even takes care of those pesky dependencies so you don't have to. Using GDebi KDE is simple, go to the directory where you have downloaded your package and just click on the file. Installation takes off, and you are on your way to a new application.

Hmm - that is "Java Downloads for Linux"
If you are using Gutsy (Kubuntu 7.10):
    http://packages.ubuntu.com/gutsy/met...tricted-extras
    Package: kubuntu-restricted-extras (10) [multiverse]
    Commonly used restricted packages

This package depends on some commonly used packages in the Kubuntu multiverse repository.

Installing this package will pull in support for MP3 playback and decoding, Java runtime environment, Flash plugin, DVD playback, and LAME (to create compressed audio files).

Please note that packages from multiverse are restricted by copyright or legal issues in some countries. See http://www.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/licensing for more information.
Here Kubuntu Gutsy Gibbon with kubuntu-restricted-extras and Java enabled in the Firefox tells (http://java.com/en/download/installed.jsp):

    Verified Java Version

    Congratulations!

You have the recommended Java installed (Version 6 Update 3).
    Before you edit, BACKUP !

Why there are dead links ?

When java is installing a liscence agreement will pop up. Make sure to read to the bottom of the agreement, there is a check box there. If you click next without checking that checkbox, java will not install.
