root/tmp

Can the folders and files in root/tmp be deleted or do they have a use in a Kubuntu only machine ??

/tmp is cleaned up automatically during boot (handled by /etc/init.d/bootclean script)...you probably shouldn't clean it manually when the system is in use as the files in /tmp are used by the system.
