What database to use ?? Help

hi all.. yesterday i tried to compile the source of MySql with the intent of installing it but after i finished installation nothin worked.... can anyone help me with what database to use with kubuntu.

BTW hav u you heard of one$db. its a free pure java database.. u can embed it in ur apllication invisibly asthough the database doesnot exist... all it requires to run is the JVM. its awesome. i tried it in windows but not in linux though..

Well I know nothing at all about databases. But I do have one installed on my system, Its OpenOffice Base - part of the OpenOffice.org 2 suite. Is that any good?

Not quite the same sort of database...

mysql is available pre-packaged through Adept/Apt/Synaptic. Try that way - it's preferable to source in many cases, as all dependencies are dealt with automagically.
