Re: Do i need an antivirus?
It's mainly a personal choice. I'm not running any AV packages. I've read that unless you are networking with Windoze PCs and performing file sharing between such, you probably don't need to be concerned with AV protection from installed packages.Windows no longer obstructs my view.
Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.

Re: Do i need an antivirus?
Need: no
Useful: yes, while rare there are a few linux viruses out there, however like snowhog I personally don't have one. One of the reasons I don't bother is that I never find myself opening any files from sources I don't trust. That said, obviously it won't hurt and klamav will be easy to install (its in the repos if I remember correctly) so if you are at all worried you might as well use it.

Re: Do i need an antivirus?
Agree with both posts. If you have a beefy CPU, I would load and run clamav (kclamav). If not and you are interacting with the wrong sort of files, you can get one and run it as needed. A lot of your webmail sites scan for you, etc. I would not want to pass on a win virus even if it didn't affect me. Up to this point, I never have that I know of. Good luck.
