kubuntu 7.10 wont install.

I am having problems installing kubuntu from live cd on my laptop, well getting it to start actually. The menu appears and i select strart or install. then shortly after it shows a black screen and the disc stops and nothing happens. ive tried different download sources and i have got the real cd.

help please!

Start here first. The assumption is the problem is with your video card/chip not being properly seen initially.
