    Administrator Mode

I am trying to change some of the settings on my computer. I am the only user of Kubuntu on this computer. I try to enter administrator mode, but when I enter my password it just goes back to the main settings page. How do I get in to change the settings?

What settings are you trying to change? Exactly how are you trying to do it?

In System Settings, Im trying to change the settings in Disk & Filesystems. It says click the administrator button to allow modifications. I click on the button, and type in my password. But when I click ok, it just goes back to the main page where I cant make any changes..

Try running kcontrol rather than systemsettings. Alternatively, run kdesu systemsettings and give it your password.

          how do I do this?

i tried to find kcontrol, and got a control center screen. the icons in there are the same as system settings. I went to the disk and filesystems and it gave me a similar screen. I clicked on administrator mode. It asked:

          "Please enter your password
          Command: kcmshell System/mountconfig
          --embed 41948609 -- lang en_US"

I typed in my password, but it took me back to the main kcontrol control center screen.

Do you have problems using the password in other circumstances. Can you do commands in the terminal like "sudo apt-get update" and get a password to type in followed by the command completing normally?

                ok.

I just upgraded kcontrol, and now it seems to be working.

                thanks everyone.

I've had exactly the same problem with Network Settings and File Sharing. I posted here and elsewhere at the time and it seems that there is a known bug (at least with regard to the Network Settings). As a workaround someone helped me edit my network .conf file - maybe you can edit the appropriate file for what you're needing to do?

I sure hope they fix this bug because it's majorly annoying not to be able to access those vital system settings.

I cant access the Administrator Mode from anywhere.

Now when I try to acess adept (and type in my password), it says: "There was an eror setting up inter-process communications for KDE.  The message returned by the system was:
Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed.
Please check that the "dcopserver" program is running!"

It still runs afterword though, although it still runs.
