    Netbeans in Kubuntu

    Hello !
I am new in Linux and Kubuntu and I am using Kubuntu 5.10. on a Dell PC.
Can anyone guide me, in details, on how to install Netbeans and J2SDK as root, that is, from the /usr/local/  directory, using sudo su. And that is as much I know about Linux.
I did managed to install both programs in my desktop /home/.. and they seem to be working fine for simple java applications but I have some problems with the PATH or setting the right environment.

    thanks in advance
