    video preview as icon?

Awhile ago on a Mepis setup I had it were the icons for .avi's were preview stills from like 5mins in, can't remember how i did it though?

Thought it was in this screen where you right click on an avi then go ot properties then preview but that whole screen is greyed out?

edit: i go to desktop behaviour, click on file icons and there's no video box to put a tick in?

    Re: video preview as icon?

    Do you have ?:

mplayerthumbs - thumbnail generator for video files on Konqueror (and Dolphin/KDE)
MPlayerThumbs is a thumbnail generator for video files on
Konqueror. Unlike the original konqueror plugin (libarts1-xine),
it depends on neither xine nor arts, instead it uses only
mplayer. You can take advantage of this on x86_64 systems,
where you can use a 32bit mplayer to load win32codecs.

    or

libarts1-xine aRts plugin enabling xine support
This package contains aRts' xine plugin, allowing the use of the xine
    multimedia engine though aRts.

This used to be in Kubuntu, it disappeared about a year ago and I hadn't been able to figure out how to get it back... libarts1-xine did the trick, thanks!

Thanks for the info!! My Desktop evidently had that installed, but I wondered why my laptop never did that. Yeah!!!

libarts1-xine did the trick here too, installed it then a tick box became available under desktop behaviour > File icons

          Cheers

libarts1-xine did the trick for me, too.

There's some easy fixes for problems if you have a bit of a look around, isn't there?
