In fact :
- dpkg is to manipulate a deb file (package)
- "-i" is to install
- "--force-overwrite" is to overwrite files from other installation. Your error was

dpkg: error processing avg75lms-r49-a1124.i386.deb (--install):
trying to overwrite `/opt/grisoft/avg7/etc/avg.conf', which is also in package avg75fld

So it was the way to get it passed

I use AVG on my MS XP Box (it really needs it) but NOT for Kubuntu. Why not try ClamAV ? Just an idea, good luck...
