    .deb files are 'packages' designed for Debian based Linux operating systems. Kubuntu is a Debian based OS.

    But, you will be much better off using Adept Manager to locate and install programs until you have become very familiar with how Kubuntu works.

    Adept Manager is located by clicking on K Menu | System | Adept Manager
    Windows no longer obstructs my view.

      A good program for installing debs is GDebi Package Installer. I think it gets installed automatically with Kubuntu. You just right-click on the .deb, and choose Open With > GDebi Package Installer.

        Gdebi is available by default only on Kubuntu Gutsy, on the previous versions...not, but I think is available to install it from the repos
