monitor resolution not persistent

i used

kdesu systemsettings

and changed the monitor resolution from 1024 x 1024 to 1024 x 768 ............. but wen i restarted a new session i found the change not in effect........ moreover a nasty bug like thing appeared and the monitor screen moved along with the mouse !!!? i dont know y .... help me with how to change the resolution persistently and any idea about that bug ??

The screen/mouse thing means basically that its taking the resolution, and making it bigger, but moving the desktop to the mouse, so you can view the whole thing. Strangely enough, your video card might not like that res. No clue how to fix it though
