Speakers aren't turned when headset is plugged in

    Hello,

When I plug my headset in, my laptop speakers aren't turned off.
I'm using Kubuntu 7.10 and my soundcard is a Realtek ALC 883.
Under sound preferences I set everything to OSS Open sound system.
I also have an HDA Intel (ALSA Mixer)

    can anyone help me?

Re: Speakers aren't turned when headset is plugged in

I had sound issues with my laptop as well... no sound at all. I compiled and installed the newest ALSA drivers/libs/utils from the alsa website. I now have working sound and the headphone jack mutes the normal speakers.

Have you installed any drivers other than from the repositories?

    Have you tried this?

      Try this:

Go into KMix, select the "Switches" tab, and turn on "Headphone Jack Sense"

I found that by accident whilst trying to fix another problem. Hope it helps you...

I don't have other drivers installed, I tried the HDAintelsoundhowto but it doesn't work

I don't have the Headphone Jack Sense option. I only have IEC958, Caller ID and Off-Hook

Post some info about your laptop. Include output of lspci

          Code:
          lspci

              Take a look here:

              http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=3846996

There are somethings there that should help you. I had to do some things like this for my Acer.

              Mike

PS. Let me know if one of the things there works for you. If they don't, come back and we'll try something else.

                    Try this:

                    Code:
                    sudo kate /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base
and add the following to the end of that file:

                    Code:
                    options snd-hda-intel model=3stack
                    save and restart your computer.

Re: Speakers aren't turned when headset is plugged in

                        Did you run:

                        Code:
                        sudo alsaconf
                        then

                        Code:
                        alsamixer
it might be that all the voumes are muted.
