    Install hangs, HP Pavillion notebook

I am trying to install 7.10 from a CD on an HP Pavillion notebook. The install process at some point hangs and leaves me with a blank screen. Are there any boot options I can use to help determine why the install hangs, if so, how do I enter these options. I am a total newbie to Linux.

When you are at the blank screen, press Ctrl+Alt+F1. Does that get you to a command line prompt?

Nope, nothing happens when I press ctrl-alt-F1 at the blank screen.
      I also noted the following:
-early in the boot process the message 'Bios Bug [4945...] found',
I couldn't capture the entire number, it flashed by too quickly
      - the last boot message I saw was
      'starting hardware abstraction layer hald'
then a message about 'no such file' again it flashes by too quickly to view
      the entire message
      - then the blank screen

Is there a way to log these messages to the CD for later review??

I don't have a good answer but if you are trying to install, rather than just play around with the livecd, I would try downloading the alternate install cd and, when you burn it, burn it at a slow speed < 4x.

It would probably be a good idea to search Ubuntu Forum with the model number of that HP notebook -- I tried "Pavillion" but it didn't produce anything.
