How do I remove GRUB boot loader from my hard drive?

OK, I screwed up. I tried to install v7.10 to a microdrive (on an internal USB link) on my laptop. I figured if it didn't work (which it didn't), then I 'd just eject the microdrive and forget it. However, it intalled GRUB (I'm assuming it's a bootloader), and now it fails to boot period. How do I get rid of this?

    Thanks in advance!

You assume correctly Grand Unified Bootloader (GRUB)

Check here for the GRUB super disk. This can be used to restore the MBR of your disk.

Thanks, that worked like a charm!

I was in a bit of a bind, as the laptop is an OEM copy of XP home, and the @#^&#$ "restore disk" did not let me get to the recovery console. All my other disks are XP Pro and they wanted and admin password that did not exist, and it doesn't have a floppy.......

I may try that again sometime, but it look like the laptop can't really boot from the CF socket in the side, regardless of what the BIOS says. It would have been sweet to have Kubuntu on the microdrive and left the existing installation alone.

You may still actually be able to boot from that drive. Check your BIOS Boot order settings carefully. I thought that my laptop (new) wouldn't support booting from a USB drive. Found that I had to select HD and it opened a submenu for other HD devices, of which one was USB. So, check your BIOS settings carefully.

I'll look at it again - unfortunately it's an emachines laptop, and the BIOS really looks like they quit development after they got it to boot the first time. It can barely control the CPU clock (at least under windows), etc.

Glad you got it to work. I also have an emachines laptop M6805.
