    Wlan Asus Laptop A4Ka

    Hello, I'm a newbie @ kubuntu. I'm using Kubuntu 7.10
It seems my Wlan drivers is not installed. (I think so, because my led from WLan is off)

I can get to the internet only by using a cable.

Asus does not provide a Linux driver for this. So how can I get it and install a driver? The only driver I have is a windows driver.

I've read several threads about this issue but nothing works.

When I open the knetworkmanager it shows no active device.
When I open the terminalkonsole and say iwlist scanning, this comes up:

    lo Interface doesn't support scanning.

    eth0 Interface doesn't support scanning.

    eth1 Scan completed :

Can someone help me out here?

    Thanx in advance.

    Re: Wlan Asus Laptop A4Ka

Your card seems to be functional and is eth1. If the problem was a lack of a driver you wouldn't be getting that far.

    What is the output of

    sudo ethtool eth1

Also see if you have better luck installing wlassistant through adept.

How to Solve KnetworkManager Wireless Connection Problems may be of help.

        Re: Wlan Asus Laptop A4Ka

        @ opie:

sudo ethtool eth1 gives me: no data available
And wlassistant does not exist in my adept manager.

        @snowhog:

Read it and tried it already. Doesn't help.

Also when i left click on the knetworkmanager (left from the time/date) a screen pops up and says: no active device

Also when i type "lspci" i can find my ethernet controller, but not my Wlan controller. With "lsusb" it doesn't show to.

        Thanx for the replies guys.

          Re: Wlan Asus Laptop A4Ka

I'm confused by that result. Complete lack of feedback on that command doesn't make sense to me given the iwlist output. Have you rebooted the machine since your last post?
          If you do
          iwlist scanning
again are you still getting the output for eth1 or has it changed from eth1 to something else?

          Print the output of
          lshw

With wlassistant - do you have the universe repository checked under adept menu -manage repositories-kubuntu software tab?

Yes I did reboot. Shut the rig down to be exact.

            Here are the result of:

It's still eth1, but now my own wireless connect is not shown.

            Iwls gives me:

With wlassistant I do have the universe repository checked. But there's no wlassistant.

I will try a new update by using my lan.

              Re: Wlan Asus Laptop A4Ka

ok, still not getting much info.

Can you confirm whether this is a wl-150g?

If it's not can you give any information that you know about it?

                Re: Wlan Asus Laptop A4Ka

                Yes it's a wl-150g, and it's working now!

Don't know what went wrong. But i did a clean, new install to provide new clean data. So I right clicked on knetworkmanager, and there was my wireless connection.

btw: I als found the wlassistent. but didn't need to use it after the new install.

But thanx a lot for your help.
