Kubuntu 7.10 install xfermode error

    Kubuntu 7.10 install xfermode error

    Hi all

    My trying to install Kubuntu 7.10 on my pc but i get this error message when installing

    ata5.00: failed to set xfermode (err_mask:0x40)
    etc
    etc
    etc

    My system is:

    Intel Core 2 Duo 6400
    Abit IB9 motherboard
    1GB ram
    WD Raptor 80 gb harddrive
    Maxtor 80 gb ide harddrive
    Maxtor 160 gb sata harddrive
    Samsung 160 gb sata harddrive
    2x250 GB ide harddrive
    Nvidia 7600GS gfx
    Promise TX133 PCI ide controller

    I have tryed booting and installing only with the two 80 gb drives, but still the same.

    Hope anyone can help me

    The error is related to hard drive operation, somehow, and that Promise add-on controller is somewhat non-standard. If you want to troubleshoot, I'd suggest removing the Promise controller, and then seeing if Linux will install on the hard drives that are connected through the motherboard IDE bus. I'm guessing it will be happy to install that way.

    Have you searched that model of controller on Ubuntu forum?
