What cause Kubuntu hang?

HI, I wanna ask something about computer hang...
First I am using Kubuntu Gutsy Gibbon. I don't remember when it begins. But now my Kubuntu has hang 2 times in the middle of process. That's never happend before. I can't press any keyboard (even capslock is not function) The only thing I can do is use MagicSysrq to reboot (Alt + SysRq + RSEIUB) then Alt + Ctrl + Del.

I just wanna know, what cause Kubuntu hangs?
Any websites can be my references?

I just suspecting two things :
1 . Amarok : because my computer never hang if I don't open amarok
2. Nvidia driver : but I am not very sure. Because this driver already has installed for a month already.

Oh ...I also use compiz . And my fire effect seems a little weird too...the fire particle don't show up immediately, but after a few seconds(But I don't think this relate to the who cause kubuntu hang)
Any suggestion?

Had similar problem when I tried another driver to my Nvidia card. When I switched back to the original driver, the problem disappeared... Just my 2 cents..

Same problem here..

After upgrade to 7.10 two weeks no problems and now all of a sudden system hangs in the middle of a program, no matter witch program it just hangs, mouse keep working but everything else stops!! Only hard reboot possible.

I just started to like it, but now i am not so sure any more.

I thought Xgl was the problem but after killing it same problem again.

It completly useless and problem is as a newbe i can not do anything about it except reinstall.

I also saw that after the loginscreen wenn i enter my passwd screen blinks 7 times before starting up.

Looks like something is starting 7 times. Laptop is also very slow.

Please help?

medion laptop in multiboot.

I saw also my grub has chanced, at first the kernel 16 was on top now the 14 is. and 16 moved out of his own to the second place.

While your system is running, open a konsole window and run

top

Top shows the running processing in descending order of resource usage.

Then leave the window open while you do your other work. When the system hangs, top will still be showing you which process is hogging the resources, and this may point toward the solution.

I have tried that..

Top refreshes in ?? maybe 10 sec? it is not fast enough.

Last hang was in the middle of linux terminal all of a sudden it stops. Also it is no matter wich program is running it hangs wennever it likes to. dmesg also not working because it hangs.

The Xgl is about 90% on top. but not wenn it hangs. So i killed the proces and the locked version, i was running emerald also kicked that out. prolem still excist.

I think i will try a fresh install from the live cd. maybe that works faster..

But i am glad that i am not the only one who has this problem.

You know i had a mandriva distri on who i kicked out some time ago because it had the same problem as i have now.

Feisty worked like a charme with Beryl!! I was in love... Now i want a divorce hahaha.

But we will not give up YET..
