well im back i didnt give up completely ive managed to get a proper install of kubuntu on one of my systems and ive given up on the software i was tryin to get going before now im trying to install a removable drive and i know ive had issues with this in the past it comes up hal-storage-removable-mount-all-options-refused uid 1000 so antone know away around that ??

Have you checked its settings in either your fstab (kdesu kate /etc/fstab) or System Settings (System Settings -> Advanced tab -> Disk & Filesystems -> Administrator Mode)?Asus G1S-X3:
