    Re: Dual-Booting?

    Thanks for the information everyone.

    I've successfully dual-booted...well, almost.

Both boot fine, but when I actually get into Linux, I don't really have a GUI anymore. I'm greeted with text-mode rather than the full KDE desktop.

Of course, I followed the tutorial in my first post in this thread.

Any help on how to restore KDE would be great.

In the "text mode", or Command Line Interface (CLI) mode, what happens if you enter
      Code:
      sudo /etc/init.d/kdm start
      ?

        Re: Dual-Booting?

Well, I went to go do that and for some reason it seemed to have started KDE this time around.

I'm not sure what made it not start last time, but as long as it continues to work nothing further should be needed.

The apc material is standard stuff, pretty straight. Many people have have used it with success. Yours, TwiztidSinz, looks pretty cool, and pretty technical for new folks (having them use the dd & etc.). But let’s not use this thread to flame it out. We’d first need to conduct a statistical test, running, say, 30 folks through both tutorials to see how they all fare. One thing, too, my friend, that I’ve learned—Results (on configuring booting) differ considerably as a function of the specific user setup and the specific user’s skill level in navigating the logistics of it all (commands, rolling with exceptions, etc.).
Sorry bout that... Maybe saying 'its junk' was a bit harsh..
Its just that both my friend and I tired using the guide, both ending up with screwed up installs, and seeing more than a few others posting with the exact same problems.
We both lost some important stuff (Nothing major.. mainly chat logs we both had for a long while and older backups of stuff, important but not life or death) as well as having to go through, reinstalling and setting up everything all over again.
From what I can see, there have been more than a few people who have wound up with problems and I'd hate to see another based on someones recommendation.

As for the guide, I didnt write it myself simply rewrote the information and hosted it in a place I would know to find it rather than Googling and trying to recall what I had searched for and going through link after link finding it.
The Source link has the original information and a bunch more, which is part of the reason why I cut it down.

That's cool, TwiztidSinz. 10-4, we are on the same page then
