Gooday all, not sure where to post this so I will try here. Shift it if I'm wrong. When I copy and paste a link into an email, if I click on the link to make sure I have it right, the link wont work. Any ideas why this may be so? Regards.

hey mano, try this:
mark the text you want to link, go to insert->hyperlink and past the link address into the field. Don't forget: http:// before the link

html links in emails, are of course, html. You can check your email preferences to see if you have "prefer to receive as html" or such language checked. If you have the preference to receive email as text, this may be the problem.Windows no longer obstructs my view.

I used ubuntuzilla to get FX and T-Bird, and had that problem, too.
But, it's known, and the fix is listed in the Help/Fax menu in the right sidebar of the link below.
It may not apply for you, don't know for sure, but you might try using ubuntuzilla all the way.

[Thunderbird] Links in emails don't open in browser
Add the following lines to your user.js file inside your .thunderbird profile (if user.js file doesn't exist yet, just create a new file with this content).
user_pref("network.protocol-handler.app.ftp","/usr/bin/firefox");
user_pref("network.protocol-handler.app.http","/usr/bin/firefox");
user_pref("network.protocol-handler.app.https","/usr/bin/firefox");
Restart Thunderbird for this change to take effect.

I have had a hectic week and haven't had a look at this till now. I have a few issues going on at the moment but one is , where can I find my T/bird profile to add the "user_pref("network.protocol-handler.app.ftp","/usr/bin/firefox");

Details (that worked in my case in Kubuntu):
Open Konqueror. Open your /home/your_name. On the menu across the top, View – Show hidden files. In that list, find and click on the folder .thunderbird. Then, inside .thunderbird, Open the folder RRRRRRRR.default, where RRRRRRRR is a string of eight random alphanumeric characters (that may look rather odd to you).
Find or create the file named user.js in RRRRRRRR.default.
(To create it if it's not there, as was my case: In that folder, Right-click, Create New - Text file , and call it user.js)
Copy these lines into user.js:
user_pref("network.protocol-handler.app.ftp","/usr/bin/firefox");
user_pref("network.protocol-handler.app.http","/usr/bin/firefox");
user_pref("network.protocol-handler.app.https","/usr/bin/firefox");
File-Save, File Quit

Thanks Qqmike, I went into my T/bird profile and added the lines you suggested but to no avail. I will have a look around and see what else may be the problem. Btw, in preferences I cant find the place where you change the setting for html. Any clues? Thanks again.Comment

If you haven't yet, try purging Thunderbird from your system and reinstalling it (don't worry, your e-mails are saved in a .hidden file in your /home directory and won't be deleted). Run the following commands in order:
Code:sudo apt-get purge thunderbird
Code:sudo apt-get clean && sudo apt-get autoclean
Code:sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install thunderbird

Your other option, after cleaning up, is to use ubuntuzilla (Reply #7 above) to do the install.
