My main account runs at 1680x1050 *only* on the official Nvidia binary blob. sad but true. Anyhow, I have a second account for my son and it runs at 1024x768. regardless of what resolution he runs at though, he'll always log into a blank screen and it'll stay like that... here is a workaround I discovered by pure chance.
1. create a screensaver.sh file in the /home/<user>/.kde/Autostart directory.
2. put the following without quotes into that file: 'xdg-screensaver reset &'
3. chmod +x /home/<user>/.kde/Autostart/screensaver.sh
4. log the user out and log back in...
this is just a workaround *but* the best I've found so far. if any actual solutions are available or known for this issue, I'll be glad to hear them
thanks!
