Can't boot from live CD - Kubuntu 7.04

    Hey,
I am a Kubuntu n00b, but I wanna learn. The thing is, I can't learn if I don't have it. So today I was going to boot from the brand new shiny Kubuntu live CD that I got from SHIPIT.org. I turned on my laptop, selected Start or Install Kubuntu, and then nothing. I got an error:

can't access tty: job control turned off

So logically i turned the tty on.

    entered: tty

    And tried to reboot.

    Again the same thing

    I have an Acer Aspire 5920G, with Core2Duo 2ghz, 2GB ram, NVGF8600MGT 256MB,

    What to do?
    What is tty?

Also, where could I find drivers for my dial up modem?

    Cheers, hope someone helps...

I've looked into this error quite a bit and I'm going to give you what appears to be one of the best and most consistently successful approaches to this problem. It can be quite involved so if you have any questions post back. The instructions are thorough so it is worth following them carefully.

Read the Dannyboy79 post about using break=top on boot and modprobe piix.

On the modem question I don't suppose you have a true hardware based serial connect modem? Softmodems are an enormous pita with linux.
