Can I change 'system menu' applet to launch Dolphin instead of Konqueror? YES!!

I hate Konqueror. It's the Internet Explorer of the KDE world. Firefox is a much better browser and I searched down how to change my default web application. Dolphin is a much better file manager and I put it on the quicklauncher and removed the 'system menu' applet because it launches Konqueror.

I would like to use the 'system menu' applet if I could teach it to launch Dolphin. Is there a configuration for the applet or a system-wide default application setting to do this?

PS: I tried to remove Konqueror with ADEPT and it took kdesktop with it, thus my snippy IE comment.

Are you running feisty or gutsy? In gutsy dolphin is the default.

7.04. Does Gutsy have grub2 and firefox 2.0 also? I might drop back 10 and punt.

          Yes, and yes.

Here is the Gutsy list of available packages:

          http://packages.ubuntu.com/gutsy/

Obviously (or maybe not ...) the Gnome packages are for Ubuntu, and the KDE packages are for Kubuntu. The rest of it should be should be common to both flavors.

            Solved!

There are multiple threads for Gutsy on how to change the default file manager back to Konqueror from Dolphin. Most advise is remove Dolphin and the default will automatically change to Konqueror. As noted above, the opposite (remove Konqueror) is not an option for me. Then I found this:

Konqueror's settings menu edits and saves system settings. I followed these instructions and put Dolphin at the top of the list. (I used Konqueror to neuter itself.)

Next on my To Do list, start a petition to change Konqueror's name to Explorer.
