    Installing programs?

Sorry for all the posts, just want to get this working!

I'm having the worst time with installing programs of any type. Everything i download seems to come in a .tar.gz file. I unpack it into a new folder, but what do i do from there? Sometimes there is a readme file in there that i can actually view, and other times i cant view it. I've followed several readme's or install files, and I always get a list of errors in my terminal. Some want me to use ./configure, then make and make install, but i have no idea what all of that is actually doing.

It just seems like i'm going about all of this the hard way, and there is some easier way to install any program. If i get anything working, its because I accidentally stumble upon some guide that is actually clear enough for me to follow.

    Currently using Dapper btw.

Just about everything in the world you could possiably want is point and click through Adept.
Menu button > System > Adept Package manager.

You might want to read "How to Install ANYTHING in Ubuntu here:
