When I'm installing Kubuntu x64 from the Live CD, it hangs when downloading language packs, this is because for some reason, it cannot connect to the internet, which is fine for me because I do all that stuff in Vista anyways. But, my question is, is there a way to not download the language packs? And, is there a perfect guide out there for dual booting, every time I try to, no matter what flavor of *nix, its never able to recognize my windows partitions, and the recovery console doesn't recognize it either so I usually have to reinstall.

Re: Install hangs
Oh, I've go the partitioning under control, got 35GB set aside for Kubuntu.
The probem I'm having is that it hangs when trying to download the language packs, at 83%, which results in me resetting the machine or canceling the installation. When it reboots it can't find any OSes. How do I make Kubuntu not download the language packs, or have them come with the CD?

Re: Install hangs
how long are you considering it to be hanging before you cancel it?
it takes me a few hours at 83% when i load my cd into the machine.
the Duel boot will take affect after the install is finished and you reboot.
let the machine take its time and install the system. if it is longer then 6 hours then yes im sure it could be hanging up on you.
hope this helps

Re: Install hangs
A lot of these "install hangs at xx%" problems ultimately turn out to be a bad CD burn, or problem CD media. Before you lose a lot more time with the one CD, you might consider burning another. Burn it at 4X speed -- and don't necessarily trust the "check CD for defects" output.

Re: Install hangs
@ponygal -- that is amazing -- I never saw a version disappear so quickly! I guess when they say "not supported long term" they mean .01 nanosecond after the next version is released! :P
@Krono -- I'm pretty sure those language packs are on the install CD, which is what makes me suspect you might have a bad CD, rather than an actual installation problem. But I'm not 100% certain because I did not pull the plug on my Internet connection when I installed.

You're welcome. Hey, one of the first things I do when first visiting someones place, is to look in the cupboards and such! Did the same thing here in the Forum when I first became a member. It's amazing what you can find when you snoop around.Windows no longer obstructs my view.
