File names from windows in Greek cannot be displayed in Linux

A friend faces a problem with his windows files (office files) that are written in Greek, he cannot display them in Linux.

One solution is to rename them but his files are too many to do that. Is there something he can do with fonts or encoding (like we do with Firefox) to view the files?

    Thanks in advance

I don't know much about this but I think you should first try
kmenu -> system settings -> regional and language

Then under country region and language there is a button to install new language.

Also in the keyboard layout area of this same section choose the layout tab and click enable layouts. Add greek to this and you will see an icon pop up on the taskbar(kde keyboard tool) which allows you to switch between languages when you type so I can, for example switch to greek and type:

    Αδφςεφποιθδφλκξασδλκξ

    and switch back again.

If these things don't work then you might look into adept and whether the following are installed:

    language-pack-el
    language-pack-el-base

    language-pack-kde-el
    language-pack-kde-el-base

    language-support-el

I would only mess with this if the system settings options don't seem to work the way you expect.
