    Re: Strange DHCP setting

I have tell them I am using linux and ask may be they can help to setting for me. Unfortunately none of them understand Linux (Geez.....).

Ah they said my pc is through a switch. So is that the LAN system you refered?

I can see them in Windows network if I add IP Address 171.191.2.27 and subnet mask 255.255.0.0. And yes, they can see me too.

I have try most of the number. I just begin wondering , am I using router :P. Sorry, maybe I am looked stupid, but the fact I don't know anything about network. (The positive that I can't connect in Kubuntu is I learn a lot about network. ) Assume I am not using router, what should I do?

Ah I don't understand the fifth paragraph. But I see there is one interface , eth0. The "Activate when computer starts" always has X. Must automatic? The automatic mean it using DHCP right? But mine must configure IP manually. If I set DHCP, I can see the "Wired" like this :

I have tried to obtain IP automatically, and it fails to connect to internet. So that's why it can't be set automatic. But if I set manually , it even not detect any wired plug in my network :

      Re: Strange DHCP setting

I'm very confused by this thread.

1.You have two ethernet cards and, based on the hardware addresses shown it appears as if you are using one with windows and the other with linux. Is this correct?
Are you disconnecting the one card and connecting the other or are you trying to connect to muliple networks?

2.Your linux setup seems to be getting a 172.20 address which, I believe, is private space. Your windows addresses suggest something else. Then you say you put in an address of 171.191.2.27 in windows and are connecting? This doesn't seem to correspond with anything else we are seeing or maybe I am misunderstanding "I can see them in Windows network if I add IP Address...". You say they claim you have a switch?

3.You say you are also connecting through a proxy.
Can you give us more information about your situation? Is this a home environment and your isp is telling you to use a proxy or are you on a college campus etc.?

4.Are you running a firewall such as guarddog or firestarter?

      5.Do the following:

      ifconfig eth0 down
      ifconfig eth0 -dynamic up

      then immediately do

      dmesg | tail -n 25

      and post the output

then try to ping something on the outside like

      ping www.yahoo.com
      or
      ping kubuntuforums.net

        Re: Strange DHCP setting

        Sorry for that.

But nevermind, I have solved the problem yesterday. And today, I post this reply from Kubuntu 7.10 Live CD!

Here is my brief description about my pc and the problems:

My pc has 2 ethernet card : Intel Pro 1000/MT (onboard)
        E-Pro Realtek 8139D

In windoz I use Realtek, and disable the Intel. While in Linux I used Intel. Why ? Because Feisty unable to detect my Realtek. I intended to use the Realtek, but because it was undetected, so I think it's okay to use Intel. (I never intend to use Intel from the first)

Yesterday morning, I began suspected my Intel is the source of problem. I try to connect through Intel ethernet controller in Windoz. And yes....I fail to connect. So the problem why I can't connect is not the setting. But the Lan card!!

Later I try to find driver for this Realtek. I have installed the driver. But still undetected.

The last move is I downloaded the newest version of Kubuntu. And it successfully detected my realtek. And because, it detected my Realtek so hehehehe ......Here I am....!!

Thanks a lot for everybody's supports.
