    Help configure NIC

First time using Kubuntu on old laptop with amd 333 processor, 128 meg ram, cd rom, usb, nic. I need to connect to existing windows home network. I just installed Kubuntu 3.5 and originally it identified my NIC and I could go in as root and it had a button to hit to configure the card. That didn't work and now it won't allow me to go in as root any more. I am frustrated, but I want to at least be able to connect to the internet. I have a cable modem, through a linksys router for vonage and a netgear wap for my other laptop. I was hoping I could connect this old laptop with a usb netgear wireless hub, but I couldn't get that to be recognized either.
I need some help at this point. The NIC card is a Hawking PN650TX 10/100
The wireless usb adapter is a Netgear MA101 802.11b
    Thanks

    Re: Help configure NIC

    Hi,

Can you see your cards when typing lspci ?
Can you give the output of ifconfig -a ?
    and cat /etc/network/interfaces
