    Problems conecting to internet

    Hello everybody,

I'm new to linux, actually, today was the first day I used linux.
I've installed kubuntu 7.04 today, but I coudn't connect to internet.

I don't know what is wrong with it. I use a wireless D-Link 524 router to share internet to all pcs, but this pc doesn't have a wireless adapter on it, so I'm using a wired connection.

I've used the hardware database to "diagnose" the problem...
It show me that my internet connection is the only problem. All three attempts to ping failed.

I use a realtec pci network adapter, a litle old.
I don't know if kubuntu found drivers to it..

Where do you think is the problem? drivers or configuration only?

where can I find in linux a place like "device manager"?

    Thank you very much!

Open a Konsole--kmenu>>system>>Konsole--and type lspci. If the device is detected it should show up. Post the output here so we can see the model of chip it uses. If it is supported you may just need a driver or use ndiswrapper to connect.

First, make sure that your ethernet card is activated. Open K Menu and click on System Settings, then click on Network Settings. Click the Administrator Mode button at the bottom of the screen. Enter your password. If, under Available Network interfaces, etho is not listed as enabled, then click on it and click the Enable Interface button at the bottom.

Okay. It's enabled. Are the configuration settings correct?

yeah, I`ve copied the configuration on the other pc running windows...
At least I think I did everything correct.

I`ve clicked at manual configuration near the clock, and set everything.

Why the led in my router isn`t on if the card is enabled?

could be a problem in the router?

Not likely. As you can't hurt anything by trying, I'd switch out the card for the 3Com you have. 3Com is a workhorse standard.
