How do I install a driver?? HELP!!

I'm completely new to any Linux things. I absolutely have no idea how all this works. I installed kubuntu to try the advanced 64bit-version of the 3D-construction software I use in my university workgroup. But in order for it to work I need to install the driver for my nvidia card. I downloaded some .run file from nvidia, but I don't know how the hell to use it!! When I click on it it opens some Kate text editor of some kind. In the instructions from nvidia it says I'm supposed to type sh *filename*. ...Well, WHERE DO I TYPE THIS I absolutely have no clue!
    Please help!!!
    Thanks!

There is a good page on the Ubuntu website which describes setting up 3D acceleration. It works equally well for Kubuntu also. There are pre-compiled drivers available. You'll need the 64-bit drivers.

    Check out https://wiki.ubuntulinux.org/BinaryDriverHowto/Nvidia

(note if you see references to gedit, this the Gnome text editor tool. Replace this with kwrite or kate for KDE. Or, if you prefer the command line, use nano)
