this is SUed to root (yes, i enabled root... anyway...)
it comes up a little different if i try anything else like this:
root@******:/# xwininfo -root -children |wc -l
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified
xwininfo: unable to open display ':0.0'
usage: xwininfo [-options ...]
where options include:
-help print this message
-display host:dpy X server to contact
-root use the root window
-id windowid use the window with the specified id
-name windowname use the window with the specified name
-int print window id in decimal
-children print parent and child identifiers
-tree print children identifiers recursively
-stats print window geometry [DEFAULT]
-bits print window pixel information
-events print events selected for on window
-size print size hints
-wm print window manager hints
-shape print shape extents
-frame don't ignore window manager frames
-english print sizes in english units
-metric print sizes in metric units
-all -tree, -stats, -bits, -events, -wm, -size, -shape
rather than this as a normal user:
*********@*********:~$ xwininfo -root -children |wc -l
290
I also am getting a strange device error sense i installed Kubuntu (I get it more than anywhere else with adept) that Xubuntu or Straight Ubuntu don't:
X Error: BadDevice, invalid or uninitialized input device 154
Major opcode: 143
Minor opcode: 3
Resource id: 0x0
Failed to open device
X Error: BadDevice, invalid or uninitialized input device 154
Major opcode: 143
Minor opcode: 3
Resource id: 0x0
Failed to open device
I've seen it most with input device 167(with major opcode 144) i think, but sense i started getting the first errors i posted the number has changed to 154.
I AM pretty new to ubuntu and linux but I've used a few red hat distro before for short amounts of time, and i have used X/K/Ubuntu dapper and even the ubuntu server version and now that i'm up to feisty Kubuntu I've had just loads and loads of problems, I'm not even going to get into all the stuff that whent wrong trying to install kde4....
Someone got some idea's?
