Copy and Move Setup?

I've finally got most of the programs,files,etc of Kubuntu 7.04 2.6.20-16 setup on my hard drive.I like it!My question is,now that I have these files,programs,repositories,etc. the way I want,can I copy the whole thing to another hard drive so that I could have all the same functions on another computer?I'm wondering if the second hard drive would have to have the same (hdx,y) configuration to work without having to change a bunch of file "directors"(paths?) for all of the system to work.I was thinking if you could copy everything via a network card and cross-over cable,it would save a lot of time.Hope that makes sense.Any ideas?

There is something called "ddrescue" that might do it. Personally, I would be concerned about differences in the BIOS, and other hardware characteristics, if the 2 PCs are not identical. Yes, the drives would certainly have to be at the same location in the boot sequence, or it won't boot until you've fixed fstab and menu.lst.

All in all, you may spend more time patching it up afterwards than a clean new install takes.

Ok,just wondering because I borrowed my friends cable connection to get all my upgrades and installs before I came back to my slooooooow dial-up. :P
I hoped there was a way to bypass going thru a whole new setup on the other computer.Oh well,time to make another visit soon!

A lot of the packages are on the Live CD (or Alternate Install CD). You can do the OS installation from the CD, and then get as many of the packages as you can that way, and save the internet updating for the last event. Bring your friend a beer, and by the time he's done with it, the computer will be done with the updates!

I used the Kubuntu 7.04 Live CD for the first install.I ordered it from Canonical Ltd. and it only took about 3 weeks to come.Not too bad,considering they warned it might take up to 10 weeks.I still have the disk,so I can install the basic 881 packages.Then it's off to find a friend.
